ANTIBIOTIC SUSCEPTIBILITY OF PATHOGENIC MICROORGANISMS ISOLATED IN 1969

Abstract
This medical center holds 450 beds. This reports have been summarized from the records, particulary regarding antibiotic susceptibility, in general bacteriology during 1969.
1. During the period, 2,318 pathogenic bacteria were isolated. The highest incidence of Staphylococcus aureus has been obserbed, next to this, E. coli, Klebsiella species, Proteus, Pseudomonas species, Enterococcus, etc. in descending order.
2. The rate of susceptibility to tetracycline shows as follows: Sta. aureus 15%, E. coli 6%, Klebsiella sp. 13%, Proteus sp. 7%, Enterococcus 15%, Paracolon 10%, B. anitratum 10%, Sh. flexneri 2%, Sal. typhi 44%, and Sta. epidermidis 12%. This reveals tetracycline could hardly be useful for the clinical purposes.
3. The rate of susceptibility to chloramphenicol shows as follows: Sta. aureus 54%, E. coli 30%, Klebsiella sp. 44%, Proteus sp. 65%, Enterococcus 54%, Paracolon 79%, B. anitratum 9%, Sh. flexneri 6%, Sal. typhi 94% and Sta. epidermidis 23%.
4. The rate of susceptibility to ampicillin shows as follows: E. coli 56%, Klebsiella sp. 35%, Proteus sp. 81%,. Enterococcus 80%, Paracolon 62%, B. anitratum 31%, Sh. flexneri 92%, and Sal. typhi 100%. This reveals ampicillin shows good susceptibility to most of Gram negative rods. However, if we use ampicillin without any special con¡×ideas we did to tetracycline so far, it might result in the high rate of resistant to ampicillin in the near future.
5. Two strains of Sal. typhi isolated during the period reveal resistant to chloramphenicol.
6. Most of Shigella strains were resistant to chloramphenicol, tetracycline and susceptible to ampicilln, colistin and neomycin.
